Shadow, our gentle, kind hearted dog, was put down today. She was 15 years old - The same age our old Jessie was when she died. Her health wasn't holding up. She kept coughing, messing herself and found it hard to walk because of her legs (She would regularly collapse). She still had her appetite though and she had these moments where she would play and have fun, so we thought her life was still worth living. Today, we decided that she was struggling too much, and it was best for her to be put down. I'm glad she died with us around her, instead of dying alone in the night. She lived a lot longer than we expected her to. 5 years ago, she had to have an emergency operation and there was a large chance that she wouldn't survive. However, she pulled through and when we got our current Jessie, she went back to playing and being a puppy again. In October of last year, I thought she wouldn't live for much longer. However, she carried on living for 9 more months. She was an incredible dog. She didn't have a bad bone in her body and let the cats rub in her face, even if she wasn't fond of it. Even though we saw her death coming, it was, and still is, incredibly hard to let go. I hope she enjoyed her life and died peacefully. I love you, Shadow. Rest in Peace.
Sorry to hear that :( x
ReplyDeleteRIP shadow! she'll be having loads of fun in doggy heaven right now with jessie <3 xxx
ReplyDeleteOh no, really sorry to read this, but Shadow seems like a lovely dog. Some people don't realise how much pets are family members. They grow up with us and love us unconditionally. I am sure Shadow was loved lots and that she had a lovely life.
ReplyDeleteLots of love to you fellow dog lover :)

just realised, I probably overloaded that last comment with the word love and lovely haha but that's how I am when it comes to dogs!
